General Poker Rules

There is a vast majority of poker versions. In this section general rules for all poker versions will be presented.

The purpose of poker is to get the best five-card combination among all players, which did not give up cards, neither their, nor general cards on the table (depending on game rules).

The list of poker combinations is in order from strongest to weakest:

Royal Flush

The strongest combination in the same suit. Example:

Straight Flush

Any five card sequence in the same suit. All the cards are of the same suit, and all are consecutive. If it is the same combination hand with the strongest card will win. In Russia due to the same pronunciation, this combination is known as “Street” flush. Example:

Four Of A Kind

All four cards are of the same rank. If it is the same combination hand with the strongest card will win. If it is the same combination with identical cards the strongest card will win. Example:

Full House

Three of a kind combined with a pair. Ties on a full house are broken by the three of a kind, as you cannot have two equal sets of three of a kind in any single deck. Example:

Flush

Any five cards of the same suit. Do not be tricked into thinking that all five cards are the same color. The high card determines the winner if two or more people have a flush. In Russia due to the same pronunciation, this combination is known as “Flesh”. Example:

Straight

Five cards in sequence, but not in the same suit. The higher straight wins if two or more people have a straight. In Russia due to the same pronunciation, this combination is known as “Street”. Example:

There is also straight À-2-3-4-5. In spite of an ace presence, it is the weakest, because the ace is the smallest card here. Sometimes such straight is called Wheel, Bicycle.

Three Of A Kind, Set

Three cards of the same rank. The highest set of three cards wins. With equal three cards the highest set with the strongest kicker wins. Example:

Two Pairs

Two separate pairs. As usual the pair with the higher value is used to determine the winner of a tie or the combination with the strongest kicker wins. Example:

Pair

One pair of two equal value cards constitutes a pair. The highest pair wins. When pairs are equal the highest card wins. Example:

High Card

If no one has any of the above winning hands, the tie is determined by the highest value card in the hand
